      Scott H. Biram

The self proclaimed ‘Dirty Old One Man Band’ successfully, and sometimes violently, lashes together blues, hillbilly and country precariously into raucous punk and godless metal. Years of non-stop touring have honed his assault to a fine edge; his wide-eyed throw downs in the First Church of Ultimate Fanaticism routinely lead giddy followers to a fiery baptism.

Biram ain’t no candy-ass singer/songwriter either, sweetly strumming songs about girls with big eyes and dusty highways. HELL NO!!! His singing, yodeling, growling, leering and brash preachin’ and hollerin’ is accompanied by sloppy riffs and licks from his 1959 Gibson guitar and pounding backbeat brought forth by his amplified left foot. The remainder of this one-man band consists of an unwieldy combination of beat-up amplifiers and old microphones strung together by a tangled mess of guitar cables.

Scott H. Biram won’t die. On May 11th, 2003, one month after being hit head-on by an 18-wheeler at 75 MPH, he took the stage at The Continental Club in Austin, TX in a wheel chair – I.V. still dangling from his arm. With 2 broken legs, a broken foot, a broken arm and 1 foot less of his lower intestine, Biram unleashed his trademark musical wrath.

When Scott H. Biram took the stage at his 2004 SXSW festival showcase right after Kris Kristofferson he was quoted as growling “They said that was a hard act to follow….I’m a hard act to follow motherfuckers!!” The stunned crowd looked on.

Bitter Birds "lures the senses in with a brooding, slightly more experimental side of indie pop, which some fans have compared to early Cure – less poppy and more deliciously bleak." - Laurie Gallardo, Austin Music Minute KUTX. Sept. 16, 2013
      / / /

"Bitter Birds, The Blackheart - Dark indie pop coming straight outta ATX. Their haunting sound recalls the early singles of Seattle’s Pretty Girls Make Graves with a heavy Cure influence. Singer Mayberry (yes, that’s her name) has the voice of a dark angel and emotion oozes from every syllable of her vocals. Give these guys an album or two and I’m certain that they’ll carry themselves far." - James Roberts, www.readthehorn.com, Sept. 26, 2013
      / / /
"Guitar/Drummer duo Bitter Birds have been honing a dreamy rock sound on par with the spacious meandering fretwork of Pedro The Lion. Dark vibes saturate each song, leaving plenty of etherial gloom to be pierced by the lilting vocals of Singer Mayberry."
      - www.SonicVaultAustin.com, Sept. 30, 2013

      Blacklist 7" Review, 2012:
"guitarist/vocalist Singer Mayberry and her drummer/vocalist husband David Lujan crank out black-hewn indie-pop...Foreboding basslines serve as the fulcrum for both tracks here, providing an effective emotive counterweight to Mayberry's resolute high-end vocals. Sparsely deployed guitar and drums finish out the trio's tasteful arrangements. Paired with exquisite silk-screened cover art, Bitter Birds deliver a complete package." - Greg Beets, The Austin Chronicle, Dec. 28, 2012

New single Box of Pine out now on Itunes!

      Bio

BLACK EYED VERMILLION was born Gary Christian Vermillion in 1969 as the product of a one night stand between an unemployed circus freak and a jackal. Abandoned by his mother, he was adopted by a roaming tribe of Buddhist Monk street sweepers, eventually causing him to find inner-peace within the gutter.

At age 7, young Vermillion fell into an open sewer. After being trapped for three days he was finally rescued; unconscious and badly hurt. When he awoke he could only communicate in swear words for a year and his voice was severely damaged from the septic fumes. He also sustained a head injury, resulting in his first set of black eyes which would lead to the nick name he still bears to this day.
At 11 Vermillion set out to see the world but mostly saw it from behind bars.

As he stumbled around the world from bus stations to bars to shelters to jails, he was always just lucky enough to cross paths with some of the most talented people in the underground music scene. Stevie Tombstone, One Armed Willie, Handsome Andy Gibson, Cornelious ‘the Pain’ Wickenburg, Joe Buck Yourself, Heathen Bill, Stix the Clown, Whiskey Dick and of course the legendary Shelton Williams the 1st were just a few of the people that would help him realize that he had absolutely NO musical talent! But they also taught him that it didn’t matter as long as there was a song in his heart.

Combining the elements of American roots music with the dark anger of punk and grindcore, B.E.V. will be attempting to play as many gigs as possible, depending on the bands ever demanding Rehab schedule.

      Bleu Edmondson Band

      American Saint Records
      Short Description

      Bio
With The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be, Bleu Edmondson’s long-awaited follow-up to 2007’s critically acclaimed Lost Boy, the southern-fried country rocker embarked on a search for truth, stripping back layers of regret, loss, and longing to uncover a renewed, albeit somewhat painfully soul-baring, view of himself and the world around him. He dug deeper into what the music meant to him as a musician, a writer and a man. “Writing is like holding up a mirror to those darkest corners of our lives that we keep hidden,” confides the raspy-throated singer. “It’s not always a pretty reflection, but it’s real and it matters.” The collection of songs ministers to the saint and the sinner in each of us. It is an amalgamation of those touch points and influences that give us permission to question, confront and raise a little hell on Saturday night.

For the disc’s debut single, “No Room for Mercy,” the soulful singer/songwriter paints a vivid picture of the painful unraveling of a relationship, with a south Texas thunderstorm as a symbolic backdrop. The raw wounds of deception, anger and disappointment are ripped wide open as the betrayed singer tells his lover that there is a price for what she has done and “you won’t lie to me anymore.” Unlike some of his songwriting peers in other genres, Bleu chooses not to resolve the situation – or to explain in detail the circumstances involved – opting instead to allow the listener room to weave their own experiences into the song’s storyline.

Edmondson’s lyrics convey a worldly perspective of one who has lived a life balanced on the edge – of success and failure, love and hate, elation and despair – with his trademark grit and unselfconscious vulnerability intact. There is no sugar-coating in his songs; he simply calls it like he sees it.

His men are flawed, with the brooding darkness of someone who has loved, lied and lost but for reason untold, repeats his mistakes time and again; and they are also vulnerable, with a desolate loneliness of someone who has been loved, been lied to and been left behind. Sometimes they are scared little boys, strangers to themselves and mysteries to those around them. But at the end of the day, they love a good party.

The women in Edmondson’s songs are innocent in one moment, insincere in the next, and unable to love the man who is willing to give them his heart. They dance, they cry, they lose faith, they scream, and they love and hate interchangeably. They are omnipresent, sometimes appearing as a barefoot angel sent to save the lost souls living life on the outside, or other times as a past-her-prime party girl who still has the boys fighting for her attention – and anything else she might surrender.

The couples he writes of lose their minds, quench each other’s thirsts, lie and fail to keep their promises; they fear, they take chances and through it all they love, with an urgent intensity that speaks to the desperation in their lives.

The title cut finds the singer, having first lost his way and then lost his lover, coming to terms with the realization that “there ain’t no heart that goes scot-free.” In “Life on the Outside,” homage is paid to those standing on society’s fringes, out of pride, battered, bruised, and suffering. The subject of war is broached in “Black and White,” which finds a young man contemplating enlistment, due in part to his inability to find a job, but also at the urging of a man down at the school in a real nice uniform. Before leaving home he attempts to alleviate his mother’s worries by assuring her “this ain’t no Vietnam.”

Edmondson also knows how to crank up the amps and throw down hard. From the ‘take no prisoners’ Springsteen-esque “I’m Still Here” to the unofficial party anthem of Dallas’ Greenville Avenue, “Riot Night,” the hometown-boy roots-rocker is not afraid to show off his chops. His raucous live show has earned him street cred and respect among his fans as well as his musical co-horts throughout Texas, a state that can lay claim to more than its fair share of the musical talent gene pool.

The celebrations are never ending – filled with twilight strollers, rock-n-rollers, young lovers and jesters, and always a few girls dancing on the bars in crowded beer joints. But even in the midst of the fun, there are suggestions of unforeseen dangers lurking nearby, with poetic references to “suicide doors” on a “blood red” car, and a fair warning not to “stray too far.”

Musically the tracks are bold, powerful, bright, and decidedly more rocking than his prior releases. This is the second round in the studio for Edmondson and Baker (influential Austin producer, Dwight Baker); the pair joined forces previously on the 2007 Lost Boy CD. Bleu’s signature rasp has a wrapped-in-silk quality, and Baker keeps him forefront in the mix, supported with a metronomic backbeat cushion as only a drummer-turned-producer can do.

Edmondson’s rapidly growing fan base, “The Southland Mob,” takes its name from his debut CD, produced by Texas musical royalty, Lloyd Maines. His road-dog touring ethic, particularly since signing with powerhouse talent bookers, Creative Artist Agency (CAA), keeps him running down blacktops and back roads in excess of 200 days each year. As Edmondson’s popularity has grown so has his touring radius, much to the delight of his out-of-Texas fans. Recent shows have found him stepping beyond the borders of the Lone Star state, with stops in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Virginia and New Jersey.

“I am proud of this CD,” Edmondson states. “Dwight and I knew it might be hard to follow up Lost Boy, but The Future is its own thing. I am in a different place in my life now, so naturally my writing reflects that, and I think my fans will find something they love on this new one. I really do.”

The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be is in stores October 26th, 2010.

      Aaron Blount

Aaron Blount is a songwriter and founder of the widely regarded Austin band Knife in the Water. Raised and home schooled in rural central Texas in the 1980s, his songs bear the residual influence of Country and Gospel with a surreal literary bent. Finding the balance between crime-novel storytelling and epiphany under the influence, his music is kindred to Denis Johnson, the Dirty Three, Sam Peckinpah, and Narcocorrido. He is currently at work on a new album.

Dimestore Dance Band is an ongoing conversation of composition and improvisation between guitarist Jack Martin and bassist Jude Webre, with Eric Read on the drum kit. Their spirited blend of 1940s small-combo stratagems, post-bop stumbling struts, and ethereal flights pays homage to various forebears (Erik Satie, Django, Charlie Christian, Albert Ayler, the Lounge Lizards) by taking apart their harmolodic machines to make ready for re-assembly on any occasion.

      Short Description
To Summon,To Conjure & To Channel
      Long Description
Bonemagic aka Matt Hex is a one man sound destroyer and explorer of electronic manipulation and drum machine demolitions.

A project that was either aborted or birthed somewhere in the 90s and has dragged itself along with stubborn determination throughout various underground scenes and obscure niches ever since.

Like a personal self-invocated exorcism. Cathartic primal screams through overamped microphones and barely audible gutteral utterances sparring with effectabused drum machine rhythms, overbearing saw waves and fragments of sampled sounds eaten and regurgitated into obscenely un-necessary bitrates and frequencies.

Synth Invokation, Analogue Audio Manipulation, Digital Bit Destruction, High Voltage Control. In his own words "To Summon, To Conjure and To Channel" If you're a fan of the likes of early-Final, Whitehouse, The Haters, Foetus and the various associated projects - You'll love this.
Having played with the likes of Corrections House, The Body and former Amrep noisemetallers Today Is The Day. Bonemagic has carved his place in the American psyche...

      Short Description

Austin, TX Rock N' Roll band! Former frontman and main songwriter for Austin’s locally beloved Zykos, Michael Booher is making music again with a new band!

      Long Description

In a city awash in talent of every conceivable stripe, the brandishing of a good vocal hook or using the voice as an instrument is surprisingly as rare as finding a spot in central Austin that won’t leave you with an empty stomach and an even emptier wallet.

Then again, I’ve only been here a year. I won’t pretend to have a definitive understanding of the landscape’s music offerings except to say that they are vast and that we can only hope that for the scene’s sake that the city’s Red River region is spared the blight of tapas bars and the irritable vowel syndrome of trendy restaurants gripping Austin as gentrification continues to march through the capitol.

      Where was I?

Back to the talent: fronting a tight five-piece that goes by the songwriter’s last name, Mike Booher is compelling in heartfelt authority minus the conspicuous heartache. When I first caught the band as part of a Fun Fun Fun Fest night concert, my first impression was Springsteen. Given the lack of references to unions or automobiles that comparison doesn’t hold up under repeat listens, although the uncontrived honesty and at times infectious song currents does.

The song “Autographed Bibles” is a wonderful exercise in using the voice as an instrument, planting hooks that recall a Dinosaur Jr. or Pavement while tapping an earnestness that splits the difference between Paul Westerberg (on a good day) and the gravelly declarative qualities of your favorite 1993 or earlier U2 album.

Currently putting the finishing touches on an album produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Patty Griffin, Heartless Bastards), this is a band that can lay claim to a couple of the best songs in Austin and is well worth your time.

      Bio

Former frontman and main songwriter for Austin’s locally-beloved Zykos, Michael Booher is making music again with a new band under his own moniker. He recorded an LP in December with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Heartless Bastards, Patty Griffin, etc.) and is currently aiming for an early 2016 release. Ten loose, spirited Rock & Roll and Americana songs with Booher’s familiar confessional lyrics and yearning vocals, the collection is a welcome return to form and one that may very well attract a wider audience.

      Book Of Shadows

      Book of Shadows

The core of Book of Shadows is husband and wife Carlton and Sharon Crutcher, who describe their music as “magick through sound.” Carlton, a former and longtime member of Austin space rock vets ST 37, parlayed that band's psych vibes into Book of Shadows’ improvisational skin after he left the band in 2001. With Carlton behind the synths while Sharon’s otherworldly vocals weave through loose compositions, Book of Shadows' electronically inclined drone is very much in touch with the spiritual world. 2004's Hanged Man came first, along with Indigom, 52 minutes recorded live on KVRX. 2006’s Mantis, which included the guitar work of local experimental man Douglas Ferguson and film lady Lori Varga on Theremin, took the band's sound in another direction, more a mixture of Fursaxa’s wood-nymph drones and Tangerine Dream’s space odyssey, as did 2007’s … And Then We All Woke Up, their second for experimental Austin label Ethedrone Muzac. 2007 EP The Inner World again finds them working with an ensemble of local musicians to further the magick. – Audra Schroeder

      • Long Description
A three-piece band from San Antonio/Austin, Texas, that deconstructs American roots music, and pours from the demon bottle. Depression-era Delta blues, post-industrial field hollers, free improvization and a healthy dose of post-punk skronk are fused together like quadruplets joined at the head... Call it no-account, no wave blues if you must cling to labels.

Since an early ‘90s formation in a haze of beer and gin, the band has churned out a substantial catalog of releases that have received critical praise from home and abroad. The angular, genre-jumping disks have drawn comparisons to Pere Ubu, Howlin’ Wolf, the Birthday Party, Muddy Waters, Captain Beefheart, Eric Dolphy and the Fall, among others. Boxcar Satan also has toured the United States about a dozen times, playing everywhere from smoky dive bars and bingo halls to highbrow art galleries and San Francisco’s Church of Satan.

Boxcar Satan guitarist/vocalist Sanford Allen and bassist Patrick Sane are alumni of Texas industrial terrorists Evil Mothers. Drummer Aaron Seibert is also a member of Austin's Gorch Fock.

Established in 1999, Brewtality Incorporated plays the kind of working class, beer guzzling, punk rock that has earned the band opening slots for the likes of U.S. Bombs, The Cromags, Citizen Fish, The Queers, and M.O.D. When you see Brewtality Inc. live, expect a raw, energetic, non-stop Ramones-style set with beers held high overhead. The guitars are loud yet distinctive, and the bass lines throw up all over you as the drums pound away at you like a whiskey hangover. If you're on the wagon, Brewtality Inc. may just knock you off and run you over.
